The 4-digit RAL colours have been the standard for choosing colours for more than
80 years now. At the beginning the colour collection included 40 different colours. Its number has risen to more than 200 today. The basic collection for matt colour shades is called RAL 840-HR, the one for glossy colour shades RAL 841-GL. Both basic collections contain colour samples that are being used by important institutions to cover a wide range of applications and are constantly adapted to the requirements of the industry. The registers are being used as colour samples for designs. They also contain safety- and signalling colours and fulfil the colour requirements of DIN regulations.

RAL DESIGN System has been developed primarily for sophisticated decorative colour design. It is the colour system of their choice for example, for architects, designers and advertising agencies - not only in Germany but also throughout the world. With its methidically arranged, colour metric defined colours shades the system is said to be the perfect instrument for individual colour design and since its debut on the market in 1993 it has quickly become the top choice for users everywhere. Creative colour design requires a multitude of colour nuances - RAL DESIGN accomplishes this task with the utmost precision.
Revised RAL DESIGN System
The revised RAL DESIGN system now presents itself as an improved system with a total of 1625 shades. The number of pastel colours has been increased by 26 new shades to reflect the growing market relevance and the sensitiveness of the eye to pastel colours. On the other side, the number of dark, low-saturated and less frequently used colours has been reduced.

RAL PLASTICS – The RAL
colour standard for plastics
RAL PLASTICS is a
new colour standard especially for plastics, created in response to
widespread demand from the plastics-processing industry.
To begin with, 100 colours from the RAL CLASSIC collection were
translated into a dedicated RAL plastics standard using a
sophisticated technical process – these being the 100 colours that
people most often request.
Plastics processors will benefit from RAL PLASTICS because the new,
binding plastics standard eliminates the need to reproduce RAL paint
sample colours in plastic, formerly a time-consuming and expensive
procedure.
The RAL PLASTICS colour samples are multifunctional and offer many
benefits in practice. Three different surface textures and three
different material thicknesses give users a realistic impression of
how the colours will look when used with different material
applications.
Polypropylene was intentionally chosen for RAL PLASTICS. It is a
mass-produced plastic that is used in many finished products because
of its balanced properties and excellent value for money. In
addition to its technical characteristics, this plastic is easy to
use for a wide variety of manufacturing procedures, and is also
compatible with numerous dyes.
